LISTENING TO OUR GOD WHO SPEAKS IN DREAMS - A Retreat #5 in the Everyday

A PRAYER FOR GRACE TO:

Listen, to be open to the Word and to all the ways God is speaking to me in my daily life.

MEDITATION

God Speaking in Dreams (Job 33: 14-15)

For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep.

Penetrating My Heart (Heb 4: 12-13)

Indeed, the word of God is living and effective, …penetrating even between soul and spirit, …and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart. No creature is concealed from him, but everything is exposed to the eyes of him…

Teacher (John 14:26)

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

What words speak to you of these scriptures?

CONTEMPLATION

Hear my Voice (Rev 3:20)

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, [then] I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me.

Imagine yourself there at the door what would you desire from God?

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE: THE PRAYER OF SILENT LOVE

In the Christian tradition Meditation is discursive, reading, reflecting upon about sacred events or writings. While in the Eastern religions or Western New Age Meditation is a thoughtless activity. Contemplation in the Ignatian is active while in the Carmelite tradition it is passive.

The Power of the Pause

Allowing our soul to catch up with our mind/body

Be still and know that I am God. (Ps 46:10)

How to Begin:

Find time to be in quiet for ~20 minutes.

Open with an opening prayer.

Sit silence, just rest in the love of God being with you.

Any thoughts not related to God that intrude, just let them drift away.If they persist bring them to God and see what He has to share with you.

Close with a prayer of gratitude

A Spirituality of the Heart

The heart has its reasons of which the mind knows nothing

  • What insights, given, what graces received?
